How to cope with Jack Russell puppy

Rosie gets her kennel cough injection one week today. Why? For she is going to be introduced to other animals. She shall begin her journey of getting to know life outside her family nest with myself.  Her first day shall begin with one hour, for her to get to know her environment.  Heated kennels in winter, cooling kennels in summer. One to one hands on care. Walking with lead with one to one supervision,  to keep a close eye on changing her behaviour towards eating stones. She shall have access to an outdoor run attached to her kennel.  This shall be enclosed with views to outside areas, where she can watch what is going on. This shall curb any separation anxiety getting embedded into her behaviour.  It shall also help myself too, from showing her my anxiety towards dogs, after my attack. Rosie shall become her ownself, without feeding of my fears. Her journey shall be increased each month to build her up to staying overnight.  I shall have more separation...

Rosie's encounter with meeting dogs for first time. I have not researched into how a puppy goes about meeting dogs for first time. I only know that it is not sociable to be invited to meet a owners dog by the owner saying, it is ok if your puppy snaps at my dog, for my dog shall snap back. Owner informed me her dog was 7yrs old. I declined this offer, I did suggest if she were able to wait around for an hour, I  would move Rosie closer to her dog gradually. This she soon vanished from helping out. Onwards we travel, to come across two field dog cocker spaniel who were very active off their leads..jumping up on each other and barking loudly. Owner calling their names which they totally blanked. Therefore spotted Rosie who was now up in my arms, they both made a mad dash heading towards us. I waited to see if owner could control them. Unfortunately not for him, so I waited until they were only a few feet away from me, then I pulled on my loud alarm to frightened them off. It worked, ...

Rosie at 14wks is now house trained. She sleeps all night Without going too a training pad. First thing in morning, I ask her if she wants to go out, This prompts her to walk too the door. I removed all training mats close to the door. This way if she does mess I can tick her off. Then put her outside.  She immediately goes onto a training mat outside the door, this eventually shall be grass only. For now a training mat until she can reach grass area. It has taken determination on my part and consistency.  Doing same routine each day over her 7wks with me. She walks with her lead and loves to venture outside to new places. Tonight I shall walk her around a park for few hours to get her use to doing her business on grass. It takes dedicated time from you to achieve these goals. I have loved every minute of it. Update Rosie Well she has came a long way. Now she sleeps all night from 8.30pm until 7.45am,without leaving any soiled training mats. She manages to go outside to have her first business of her day. This is a great improvement,  Rosie also never ventures out her crate even with doors open, until she hears me begin to move in the morning.  She comes to greet me, then about 20mins later this is when she makes her way towards the door to go outside.  Walking on her lead and harness she is doing this very well too. I walk faster, not giving her a chance to eat stones or leaves or grass. She follows me when I shout on her, it is a pleasure to walk with her. She does have her mad zoomies but these are not lasting more than few minutes.  This is her sign she needs business.  I give her 3 time out sessions a day 30mins each time, this keeps her calm. We play games, I say go get it, then call her name she brings it back to me, then I say leave it, with my 2 hands open. ...

Good day to you. It is very sunny here 25c. Rosie and I  have been too Montrose golf course. She walks very well on her lead , she follows me. Today she has managed her business outside.  I have new strategies to out weigh her eating stones. Whenever I take her out to do business if nothing done exactly when I take her out. I bring her back indoors keeping her up in my arms then try again until she is ready. Been 2 walks today going out again 3pm Only walk 20mins each time. Golf course is 5 mins away. Beach 10min walk. She is home sprawled out on floor in sunshine.  It feels good to be walking a dog again. Memories of my beautiful cocker spaniel Carrie come back big time. I miss her very much, I feel tears whenever I think of her, wishing she was still here to feel the sunshine too. I feel very sad at times knowing she walked these parts too. She was my lifeline towards my healing after losing my son. Now Rosie helps me get over losing my Cocker spaniel Carrie.  Circ...

Today Rosie went for her very first walk outside our garden. She did very well,  not pulling on her lead. She has small problems which shall vanish through training also age. She is after all still a little puppy. Socializing her to noises which she has only heard from afar. She was frightened by the close car engines also hedge trimmers. Other than this she still walked very well with a little coaxing. She tries to each stones and grass or weeds. I shall have to use a muzzel when outside to stop this. It is to dangerous to allow her to swallow stones. Her toilet training is coming along, she managed to do business outside twice today. Now when it happens on training pad she stands and waits for all her praises. When it doesn't happen like it does outside,  she walks away with her tail between her legs. She has settled into a routine. Mornings begin at 7am with business outside or indoors.  Then she goes back to bed to sleep until 8am. This is when she spends a little tim...

Owning a puppy.  Yes they are so cute , in reality, hard work and exhausting.  From early morning to around 6pm you are very much under their attention.  Getting the balance right is not always spot on. If you over interact with a puppy it becomes very difficult to keep their excitement under control.  I put all toys away at 6pm and do mostly training basic skills. Also calming puppy down for to unwind for the day. If she takes a zoomie I sit in MIDDLE of floor and do absolutely nothing.  I allow her to run off her energy giving her no attention at all. I have to be able to react quickly for she shall sometimes test me by jumping up to my face. This is where I say nothing but put out my two hands flat to protect myself against her teeth, sharp claws and bumping my nose with her head. Learnt from experience I may add, ouch.
